Introduction to Strength Martial arts

Energy Arts is a broad genre of Chinese martial arts, and they borrow some ideas from Kung Fu, Chi Gong, Tai Chi Chuan and other forms of Chinese martial arts. They focus more on energy than on the physical body. Tai Chi Chuan is the most popular form of energy arts. It combines the best of the other styles: body work, flexibility, internal power and mental focus.

Energy Arts are also sometimes called “Ming Tai” (Chinese Martial Arts), after their creator, Yang Di, who was a student of Chinese philosopher Confucius. When talking about his form of energy arts, Yang Di did not refer to any one thing, but rather a group of things. Tai Chi Chuan is sometimes called “eight limbs” or “fourteen limbs”. The nine-limb structure was adopted by the Japanese in their Karate style of martial arts. The goal of this was to have a more adaptable system of fighting, with a greater emphasis on speed, flexibility and endurance.

In contrast, Medical Qigong is more concerned with maintaining the health of the body and improving the quality of life. Medical Qigong has no system of fighting, only slow, methodical movements of the whole body that are interrelated. There is no uniform pattern. The goal of Medical Qigong is to promote overall health, and to provide the basic tools and skills for self-care. Medical Qigong is the cousin of the energy arts, and there are some commonalities between the two.

Both Medical Qigong and energy arts have breathing exercises. Most energy arts include breathing exercises. In Medical Qigong, however, proper breathing is emphasized more, so that the practitioner can learn to control his internal energy, just as he learns to control his internal martial arts self. This type of martial art, unlike the energy arts, does not emphasize inner strength and ability, but rather on the manipulation of the Chi flow within the body. Medical Qigong’s emphasis on internal combat is geared more toward relieving pain than to preparing the body for future combat.

Medical Qigong sets focus on Chi circulations, the flow of energy through the five elements. Neigong, which means “wind-water” in Chinese, is the chief goal of Medical Qigong. Neigong sets are designed to cultivate the forces of both air and water inside the body to increase internal power. By training the five elements, one can create the energy required for the body to function in its most optimal capacity. This can make a person stronger and more resilient against disease and injury, and it can even make it easier for a person to maintain an internal balance.

In contrast, Medical Qigong is more concerned with breath control and is maintaining good health. Many people who practice Medical Qigong find that it is a good discipline for those who want to meditate, as the focus is less on building internal strength than on circulation. A meditative student will learn how to quiet the mind and allow thoughts to pass through without interference. A student may choose to study qigong sets which emphasize meditation, or he may choose to study meditation alone. The key is to become aware of one’s breathing so that he can be more aware of the mental state of his body is in at any given moment.

Both Medical and qi arts can have beneficial effects on a person’s overall health and well being. However, they must be practiced correctly if they are to provide results. While there are similarities between these two disciplines, there are also differences. One should always consult a qualified physician before beginning a program of training in either of these energy arts.

To benefit from both types of energy arts training, it is necessary to work with a qualified practitioner who can customize a program to meet the needs of your particular physical condition. It is important to be realistic about what you hope to accomplish, because while medical qigong exercise has been recognized as an effective means of improving overall health, it should not be used as a replacement for regular visits to your doctor. Similarly, you should never rely on your energy arts classes alone. Consult with your doctor regularly regarding any changes or problems you may be experiencing. By combining the positive benefits of these two powerful forms of exercise, you can achieve optimum health.
